WELCOMING WORD FROM OUR RECTOR

NEW YEAR & NEW HORISONS

If you want to recognize spiritual life in a country, visit an interdenominational seminary like UETS. Because of God's help we have overcome the stereotype formed in early years as a denominational seminary, when each union and denomination created its own education systems, Bible schools and seminaries. It is a great honor for us to be held in the confidence of sixteen unions and denominations, not only in Ukraine , but also in the former Soviet Union and foreign countries, because many UETS students come from an abroad. With the growth of our school we realize a considerable responsibility to develop and maintain high-quality educational programs.

UETS is not just an educational process but also is a spiritual learning experience, giving students the opportunity to become stronger in a faith, service and vocation. UETS provides a well-rounded opportunity for a person to progress in the mind, spirit, soul and body. Knowledge is just the beginning of the way, isn't it? And after receiving knowledge, an understanding will come and then man can find wisdom from God. Faithfulness is also a very important mark of maturity that is a challenge for the younger generation – faithfulness to God, the church, and to vocation.

Rev. Anatole Gloukhovski,
UETS Rector

FAITH CONFESSION

•  We believe that canonical books of the Holy Scripture are verbally inspired and infallible Word of God, perfect revelation the will of God for Salvation of all mankind. The books of the Bible are unique authoritative rule for all questions in Christian faith and life.

•  We believe that there is one Creator God, perfect and eternally existent in the Holy Trinity of Father, Son, and the Holy Spirit, each with personality and deity.

•  We believe, that Jesus Christ – true God and true man. He was manifested in flesh through the Virgin Birth, and died on the cross for our redemption. He was risen from the dead, lifted up to the Heaven and sat down on the right hand of the Father. He is our High priest and Reconciler.

•  We believe that the Holy Spirit glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ, and convinces the people of their sins, revives them for a new life, dwells inside of them, fills them with the power for godly life and ministry.

•  We believe that man, was created by God in His own image, but fell into sin and died spiritually. He can revive for salvation and spiritual life only through faith in Jesus Christ, thanks to the work of the Holy Spirit and to the Word of God.

•  We believe that shed blood of Jesus Christ and His resurrection — is only one basis for salvation of all people. Who repent in their sins and through the faith receive Jesus Christ as their Lord, born of the Holy Spirit and become children of God.

•  We believe that Baptism in water and the Lord's Supper – are commandments of the Lord, which fulfil by Church. But without saving faith, it doesn't provide salvation.

•  We believe that true Church of God consist of people who revived by the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ and united in one body of Christ.

•  We believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and He is the Head of the Church and that every local church is under His guidance.

•  We believe in the second coming of Christ that includes the rapture of the saints and judgment under the quick and the dead.

•  We believe in resurrection from the dead: for Christians it will be for glory, eternal happiness and bliss; for unbelievers it will be condemnation and eternal suffering.

•  We believe in necessity to fulfil the Great Commission of our Lord Jesus Christ – Mat. 28:19-20.

HISTORY OF UETS

1991 Ukraine becomes an independent country. Evangelical churches start to come out of the underground; many Unions and Fellowships of evangelical churches are registered. The whole series of seminars and conferences proves the need for systematic education, which would develop leaders to minister in new circumstances of freedom and opportunities. In January 1991 a correspondence course is started, using the program of International Correspondence Institute (USA).

1992 One-month seminar is held in August 1992 in Poliana, Carpathia area (Western Ukraine). This seminar is one of the first steps in the establishment of systematic theological education in Ukraine. Students are offered introductory courses to Theology, Evangelism and Missions Work, Christian Education, Christian Counseling etc.

1993 In August 1993 the Ukrainian Pentecostal School of Theology is opened in Poliana offering a one-year intensive program on certificate level. The students come from different areas of Ukraine and Russia; many of them are already full-time ministers and some are young people with a strong desire to give their lives for ministry for the Lord. After one year of running the program it becomes clear that students need training in more specific areas.

1994 Because of the renting problems the School has to leave the facilities in Poliana. After move to Kiev three new departments are opened: Christian Ministry, Music Ministry and Christian Education. Each department thus specializes in the areas of Church Planting and Development, Sunday School administration and teaching, and Church Music and Worship. At that time the Seminary is renting one and a half floors in a four-story hostel building in Kiev. In 1996 the European Evangelical Accrediting Association co-ordinator Dr. Adrian Stringer pays his first visit to UETS in order to help with accreditation of Seminary's programs.

1998 Because of difficulties with rent, Seminary moves to the town called Boyarka, 30 km out of Kiev. The name of the School is changed to Ukrainian Evangelical Theological Seminary.

1999 In September 1999 we started to develop a fourth year of education with the purpose of offering Bachelor of Theology and Christian ministry degree. In the same year UETS passes the accreditation by European Evangelical Accrediting Association on the level of Diploma in Theology and Christian Education.

2000 Purchase of 2.1 hectares (5.5 acres) of land in Kiev to situate UETS Campus permanently. The existing buildings on the site are in quite bad shape and in need of much repair/renovation. All Seminary offices and classrooms are moved to the first floors of two dormitory buildings, taking up student rooms' space. Kitchen/dining buildings are repaired to the minimum satisfactory condition. The school year starts on October 1, since more time is needed to finish all necessary repairs.

2001 Graduation of 9 students - first to receive Bachelor Degree in Theology. The renovation of Faculty Housing building is completed and the offices of Communication and Administrative Departments are moved to the first floor of the building to free space in the dormitories.
The construction of UETS Academic and Administrative Center is started. The first phase of the project consists of renovating existing building in the center of the site, which is to host Chapel for 400 people, Library & Research Center, offices of Communication and Administrative Departments. Temporarily all classrooms and academic offices are to be moved to the renovated building in order to free the dormitory space for 30 additional students during the academic year 2002/2003.

2002 For the first time during the graduation we have a prayer of dedication for some of the graduates that are already involved in pastoral/leadership ministry to give them right to do church sacraments, as well as conduct funerals, dedications of the baby etc. The permission is approved by the Board of Control and with the blessing of Pastors Board.

2003 This year became a special year in developing the non-resident program of “Christian leadership”. For the first time in UETS we have two streams of non-resident students, 104 active pastors and leaders both from mega-churches and village churches.
Academic center building #1 – Rhema is taking its final shape. Two floors are functioning – Library floor and Chapel floor.
One of significant events is the opening and dedication of the new library, which is now situated on the ground floor of the Academic building.

2004 The building project of the Academic building #1 is completed. Most of the offices are moved to the 3 rd floor of the Academic building to free space in Dormitory and Faculty Housing.
New step in developing non-resident program is taken. This year we have 3 streams of non-resident students. A fourth year of education for non-resident students is started with a purpose of offering Bachelor of Theology and Christian Ministry degree.
