May 13-17, 2019, Ukrainian Evangelical Theological Seminary was privileged to host a team of volunteers from Woodlands United Methodist Church, Texas, USA.
The volunteers, some of whom were professional librarians, came to assist the UETS library, in properly cataloging English books as well as barcoding them.
At first glance, it may seem like no big deal, but considering that there are tens of thousands of English books in the library, having these titles accurately entered by native speakers so that they can be located and used by our library users is an invaluable service.
Roman Shvets, director of the UETS library, said, “These volunteers were introduced to us by our partners. We had been in correspondence for a while, drafting and tweaking plans for this joint project. Library assistance has been this team’s specialty. Before coming to Ukraine, they also ministered in Croatia. These are very open and sincere people, true professionals. They were also genuinely interested in learning about our culture. The week we spent together was very rich. We all are very happy and hopeful of further cooperation.”
The team from Texas also ministered spiritually not only to UETS librarians but also to faculty and staff by sharing their reflections, experiences and testimonies at morning prayers. They also hosted a pizza party for students.
We believe that this is a great example of how often unnoticed behind-the-scenes work can become a great blessing to others!
